Discover The Black Sea (ep1)
About the project
Our project aims to raise awareness about the impact of human activities on aquatic life. We mourn the loss of the monk seal (monachus monachus) which is extinct in the Black Sea. We aim to protect other endangered species such as dolphins and sea turtles. Our group of volunteers are making underwater film to show the waste lying on the seafloor, we organize scuba diving to collect and exhibit the waste removed from the sea. Join us in our efforts to make a difference!
Our planed activities
Beach cleaning and waste collecting with snorkelling,
The scuba diver volunteers participated in beach cleaning and waste collecting with snorkelling in the most polluted areas in Sinop Türkiye. With the help of the municipality THAT provided us with huge garbage bags and a garbage vehicle for the excessive waste to be transferred to the waste processing installation. The artist volunteers also joined the cleaning activities and select some of the trash to design their artworks.
Waste collecting with scuba diving
there was 8 pairs of scuba divers each pair of volunteers was accompanied by one scuba diving instructor from the Sinop university. Also there was extra scuba diver instructor who was responsible for the whole group. We did not dive deeper than 35 metres. The instructors made the diving plan and the volunteers followed their diving plans. One of the scuba divers (volunteer) used an underwater camera, to record the waste under water and waste collecting activities under water.
Exhibition of the waste collected
We asked the artist volunteers to observe the town, make researches and interact with the people to get inspired to present the exhibition after the waste collecting activities accordance with the “sharing model”
